Our Advocacy First Approach

At Wingwomen, our core belief is that every woman deserves access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. We recognize that women's health is an intricate tapestry of physiological, psychological, and societal factors. Our advocacy-first model stems from this understanding and our unwavering commitment to uplift and empower every woman who seeks our services.

In 2017, at 34 weeks pregnant, Wingwomen founder Adonica Shaw walked into the labor and delivery floor with the expectation that she would be monitored for a few hours. But a short time later she was induced for delivery due to a Preeclampsia diagnosis. Although Preeclampsia, which is characterized by high blood pressure, and disproportionately impacts black mothers, she was unaware that she was at risk for the condition.

Despite an otherwise safe delivery, she and her son, and both experienced short stints in the ICU and NICU.

Her experience became a catalyst for Wingwomen, and educating women at large about pregnancy risks and reproductive health. Years after her experience she went on to become a patient advocate for a number of esteemed organizations.
